Sometimes we think achieving lasting weight loss isn’t in the cards for us. One of the hardest things to do is to get started. The next hardest thing to do is to do it again. What can you do to make sure you’re a success?
Draw up detailed goals to make losing weight easier. Have you calculated how much weight you want to lose? What is your overall goal for weight loss? Do you want to lose a lot of weight, or just wear your current clothes more comfortably? Do you want to be more shapely, or do you want to have more energy?
Record your progress at least once a week. Be sure to write in your weight loss journal frequently and weigh yourself only once a week. Use the journal to list the foods you eat everyday in a food log. This way you can see what you are eating, both good and bad, which may result in your making healthier choices.
Hunger usually results in unhealthy food decisions. Be sure you do not wait until you are really starving before you eat. Be sure to plan your meals carefully and have snacks available. Instead of eating at a restaurant for lunch, you should bring your lunches from home. It will help you watch your caloric intake and save you some money in the process! You’re much more likely to break your diet if you’ve gone a long time without eating. Avoid allowing yourself to become too hungry before you eat. You should try to keep healthy snacks available and have all of your meals planned out. Instead of eating out, take your lunch with you. You will save money, and be able to better keep track of the number of calories you are consuming.
In order to lose weight you need to pay attention to not only your diet but also the amount of exercise you get. To maintain your motivation level, you need to select physical activities that you enjoy doing as part of your exercise plan. There are many activities that you can choose from, such as dance classes, joining a sports league, talking walks with friends or joining a running club. Make sure you are creative with your exercise endeavors.
Clean out all the spaces in which you keep junk food. This can be at home, the office, or even your car. It may seem drastic, but if it isn’t available, then you can’t eat it. Surround yourself with healthy food and snacks anyplace you eat on a regular basis. If you’re a person who loves to snack, make room in your cupboards for fruits, vegetables, and seeds.
Have your friends help you meet your goals. It is advised to set up a support systems of friends and family to help keep you in line during times of stress while trying to lose weight. They can be a treasure to your emotional well being when you feel like quitting. If you reach out to your support system at this time, they can help you make it through.
